Debabrata (Deb) Mukerji

Currently based in Ottawa, Deb Mukerji was born in Kanpur, India (1936) and moved to Montreal, Canada in 1969.

Deb's paintings reflect his feelings toward his surroundings, his fellow beings, and the earth we live on. His paintings depict highly emotional and powerful images. Deb is a versatile artist who uses a variety of mediums including oil, watercolour, and charcoal; and likes to experiment with different textures. His range of creations includes portraits, modern art, life drawings and figurative art. He is a gold medal-winning artist and is known for his original style and technique.

Deb had his first “one-man show” in India in 1965 and an exhibition of sketches in 1966. His third one-man show took place in Montreal in 1970. Since then, he has been active with other galleries. Avid collectors across Canada, the United States, Europe, and India own his paintings. Two of his paintings were selected for the Government of India's national exhibition and purchased for their permanent collection. His illustrations have also featured in children's books, fashion magazines and a Canadian national newspaper - the Montreal Gazette.
